Six Sexy Guy Fashion!!!

So many things can make a guy sexy, it could be his height, the timbre in his voice, his smile, his gait, how intelligent he is or even the way he gesticulates. How sexy a guy is to a girl (and in some cases guy) depends on  her taste. Some ladies believe you have to be dark to be sexy, while some feel its all about the height and abs. Beauty they say lies in the eye of the beholder, same could said be for sexiness but there are some guys who have a larger amount of beholders than others, take for example Tyson Beckford the american model.

But putting aside others factors that could make a guy exude that sexy aura and facing just the fashion aspect I have made a short list of some classic fashion factors that can hardly go wrong and is most likely acceptable for men of varying age group, life-style and class.

1. The classic suit: The suit will always be a classic fashion for men. A guy in a well-Tailored suit that fits well can never go wrong. This look gives a sense of power to the wearer and power is definitely very sexy. It speaks confidence and style. Now many may say the "suit" look could be boring but belive me there are a thousand and one ways to work your suit look and be very interesting in it. You could play it up by going for the pin-strip suit or the double-breasted suit, you could play it down by going for eye-catching shirts colours and ties. There is the option of using the pocket 'kercheif or square or suits with waist coats, also the right colour of shoes and belts also add to the effect. Good enough many suit designers have gone very creative with their designs so there is no excuse of it being boring, just find one whose style appeals to you. The suit suits anyone, be it a businessman, an Academic, media personalty, etc its the ocassion that matters. This alpha male look is classy, powerful and indeed very sexy.

2. The shorts: All work and no play makes Dele a dull man, lol. This is where the shorts come to play. This look has that laid-back sexy effect. Be it knickers or three-qaurter, slim or loose it gives off that feeling that you are in touch with your youthful side. A man that can still bring out that boyish vibrancy in him is very sexy and no look says it as much as the shorts. It gives the opportunity to show off your calves, which is one of the very sexy part of the male anatomy. Although, some guys would rather have their legs covered and all, but the shorts does bring out that boyish sexiness in you. You might love it if you just let loose a little and try it.

3. Cologne: A while ago i went on an errand for my aunty to deliver a package at a particular hotel in Lagos. On getting there i asked the receptionist if there was a guest by the name i was given, while she was checking someone passed by and left this very seductive fragrance in his wake. I didn't get to see his face cos i wasn't paying attention at first and by the time i turned to look, it was just his back i could see. I was mesmerized cos the fragrance was very pleasing. It gave me that urge to want to meet the guy. That's how powerfully sexy the scent of a guy can be. Buying colognes and perfumes that might otherwise seem expensive could be worth it. A man that walks into a gathering, giving off that very alluring scent not only commands stares and respects, but is also very sexy!

4. Native Attire: A sense of touch with your origin is what the native wear does for you. Real men aren't afraid of wearing these native wears once in a while and as unbelievable as it may sound, ladies find this look just as sexy as any of the ones above. The native wear, put together properly is a very mature look. Ladies are way attracted a guy that can exude style in a natve wear. You could be very fashion forward about the look if you aren't comfortable with the complete thing, by just spicing up your outfit with one or few traditional pieces. The native look has its very own odd sort of sexiness but still sexy is sexy!

5. Blazers: The blazer gives the opportunity to fit in both in a formal setting as well as the informal. Blazers are very in right now, but even long before now has been a very fashionable piece. Blazers give that blending effect of being responsible and yet stylish. This look oozes masculinity and that definitely is a very sexy qaulity.

6. Neck chain: By neck chain i mean a very simple subtle neck chain. This piece on guys is very chic. It speaks sexiness in different languages that ladies understand. The key is to buy an original that would last you a very long time, you don't want to be buying fakes that you keep changing and end up getting tired or coming off as vain.

In all, confidence, carriage and character are the essentials that must be present at all times. No matter how suited up you are, lack of confidence is a great stinker, it affects the way you carry yourself and believe me no lady will find that attractive. At the same time don't be overly confident, else you come off as cocky. Character is another thing, be open minded and friendly (without being too flirty mind you), not too uptight or jerky. Having these qaulities and not over doing them does makes you sexy!

SISTERly fashion

While i was away from home for my NYSC, something funny happened. I was going through the recent update on my blackberry messenger and i saw that my sister just put up a new display picture. I zoomed in and yea the picture was beautiful, but there was something familiar about the picture that kept me staring at it for like 1minute. Then, bam! i knew what it was, the blouse she was wearing was mine, lol. Then i sent this message "that blouse looks familiar ;)" , in turn she sent me this picture.

Seeing the picture made me smile and i kept on thinking of how wonderful my sister has been to me and the great support she has shown me since i seriously started this fashion business. I have being invovled in fashion for as far back as junior secondary school, drawing caricarture fashion models, having active participation in clothing and textile classes, following fashion news as i could and so on. But being able to sew and studying fashion design happened just two years ago and am still learning. So how was my sister of help? you would ask. She was my "laboratory rat". Just two weeks into fashion school, my sista had the "great"confidence to give me her material for me to make her a skirt. Now only a sister would do that, cos some people can't confidently give their cloth to a tailor of many years. This was the skirt i made:

Through out my learning period in fashion school, i rarely used the 'calico' materials students used for practical but instead i used fabrics given to me by my sister, she was my first client and still is my most loyal client. Many will say she had no choice since she is family, but if you meet her you would know she is the most down to earth person you would ever encounter. So if she didn't beleive i could make it, she wouldn't give me her cloth to make but would rather give me verbal encouragement. Her confidence in me was a major source of encouragement and helped me through some difficult times. Below are pictures of two garments i made for her just two months into fashion school

My sister is not the emotional type showing her love openly, nah, (in her words "please no mushy mushy things", i know she would kill me when she reads this) but she encouraged me in other ways by undergoing my amatuer photoshoots, listening to all my "meaningless" fashion stories, givnig my constructive criticism and even helping out in various little ways to show she cared. So what is the lesson learnt; Encouragement goes a very long way! Every opportunity you have to encourage someone please don't hesitate to do, you might just be the spark or push the person needs to move on :).

#Fashion tip: Ladies with broad shoulders should embrace dresses that have lengthwise pleats, folds, or tucks extending from the shoulders to the waist, placed somewhat toward the centre line in order to narrow rather than broaden the figure. Hat with a relatively high crown and a fairly wide brim.

But should avoid wide dresses, horizontal structural lines in yokes, collars, and lapels of garments and very small hats.

Tailor "HORROR"

Atleast once, at one time or another we have all had that horrifying moment with our tailors and in some cases various tailors whereby he/she din't just get the style, before we finally meet the 'perfect' tailor. And some of you are still having the 'tailor' problem. It may have been the dress for an important occasion the tailor ruined that annoyed you and made you feel like even ripping the dress in half. Some have even rejected such 'ruined' garments and left in annoyance. Long before i learnt to sew i have  experienced every of these situations and i understand perfectly how horrific it could be. Because of such cases, i have a friend that doesn't patronise any tailors because of past experiences and she is very contented with ready to wear garments, absolutely nothing can change her mind.

This problem could result from any of this two causes or both:

i. The tailor isn't just good: Learning they say is a continous process, but many of our older "local"tailors don't add to their knowledge as time passes and changes occur. Local in quote because am referring to the normal tailors we have all around us not the big name fashion designers (ok i guess i will have to write on this later). So as i was saying, many of them are still stuck on the styles that were when they learnt the skill, hence when we bring newer styles to be sewn, they sew it well, but there's always something wrong somewhere and the garment isn't just right, not looking now and having that grandma look about it .
This doesn't mean all older tailors aren't good, but just the stubborn few that refuse the latest trends and are better suited to sew for clients of their age group. Then we also have the younger tailors that aren't good too, either because they aren't skilled in the business, but economy or family forced them into it or they weren't good students at the time of learning. To cut the long story short, sometimes the tailor ain't just good.
Solution: When you meet the tailor please be very observant, a tailor that knows what he/she is doing listens carefully to your style description and ask questions to have better understanding, is very confident and uses fashion terms like neck-line instead of neck or sleeve instead of hand (ok not all though, but you know what i mean). Most times our instincts also helps, if u feel you ain't comfortable just kindly leave, you know what you want so get what you want.

ii. The style isn't for you: Many atimes we see a nice style on a friend, in a magazine or even on a stranger that we instantly fall in love with cos of how it fits and looks nice. But yet we go to the same tailor that made it and it just doesn't fit us? This is because that style is not flattering for our body type. We have different body shapes and even garments have their shapes too (this i will discuss in a later post). I remember when i was undergoing my NYSC program which is not long ago in cross river state, i was sewing at a lady's shop at my free times and something happend one day.

A lady walked in with her boyfriend and said she was directed to our place cos word has it that we sewed very well and all that, so she wanted to try us but that she had no style in mind and would love to go through the magazines we had. Eventually, she choose a style and showed it to her boyfriend smiling and asked "do you like it?"but squeezing his face he said "nah, not for you" and he kept on shaking his head. OK yes she felt embarrased sort of, but sincerly he was being plain truthful. The lady happens to be on the heavy side, she had really large hips, wide mid-rib and an equally large bust. Itwas a dress with puff sleeves, bulbed from the waist ending inches above the knee. Somewhat like the dress below, but a fuller bulb and the sleeves. So we gently cajoled her (so she doesn't think we are mocking her size, although she kept on scowling at her bf) into choosing anoda style that was better suited for her, cos trust me she woulda ended up looking like a big round giant ball in that dress, big hips, calve and all.

The dress was beautiful on the wearer in the magazine but if she had insisted on the style, the result woulda being awful on her and she would in turn blame the tailor for making such a bad dress.

Solution: Study you body shape, find out your flaws and your assets, wear garments that hides your flaws and draws attention to your assets.  You can define your style by picking out those outfits in your wardrobe that garners alot of compliments when you wear them, try them on, take note of the structure, the lines, the decorative parts, how it fits, where it covers, what part is open, what part is full or slim and so on. This will help you come to a conclusion about what fits you best. Another thing, when you see a style you like, please take time know if it will fit you before making any descisions.
I am sure when you read my next post, you would have a better understanding of dress shapes as well as body shapes. Understanding these things helps you make wise choices. And please take it easy on tailors they also humans.

It is very essential for every individual to define their style so that you are not caught up in the up and downs of fashion fads or changes. Fad is a short-lived fashion, fashion that doesn't have the value to stay long in the fashion market.

#Fashion tip: Wearing proper under garments gives your outfit a better fit and you a stronger
confidence. By proper, I  mean, right size and of good quality. Buying quality of the
garment you wear closest to your skin shouldn't be a task, should it?

Revamping to suit your style.

Revamping is to modernise a fashion from history. The key is creative revamping begats new fashion trends! Just as everything has its history so does fashion. Fashion has being since man felt the need to cover up. But fashion became a seroius business as far back as the 18th century and even farther. The era women were compelled to wear dresses weighing tonnes.
But fashion does have it cycles and phases. Charles Federick Worth(1857) of the 19th century known to as the father of haute couture, a french designer at the time was the first to introduce fashion shows to showcase his designs on live models to his highly respected clients. Fashion has indeed changed from decade to decade, but really in the world of fashion, most of the new trends seen are just recreations and modernization of past fashion trends. The mini-skirts form the 70s are now being revamped today as the peplum skirts/bandage skirts. The short colourful and bright dresses from the 1960s are on a comeback right now with the fashion trend moving towards a more colourful approach.

A modern day dress

McCall's dresses from the 1960s

This is a modern Harem pants

1990s Mc Hammer pants

So the harem pants is like a revamp of the then popular mc hammer pants that dominated the 90s. Now being able to move with the changes in the fashion world and yet retain your style is what makes you a fashion leader!

So are you worried about that dress, skirt or pants you have and seems outdated but you love so much? no shouldn't. All u need do is let that artistic power in you surface, get out your scissors or needle and thread and let your style speak for you, or just add a belt or scarve. You could give it to a seamstress to help adjust it if you are not feeling upto it so you dont end up ruining it all. You might just be the pacesetter of the next fashion trend ;). I remember when i was very little and my dad used to wear ankara (African print) shirts on jeans, my siblings and i used to tease him and laugh at his awkward style, but the funny thing is just few years later everybody was doing it. So dear fashioninstas, do live your style and be comfortable and strut in it.

#Designer's corner: What is a designer worksheet? The designer worksheet contains records on all styles as developed. The designer fills the worksheet on information of every design made which guides the production in figuring cost, ordering fabrics and trimmings. The information includs; Design dates, selling season for the garment designed, sizes it will be made in, style number, short description of garment, working sketch of garment, colurs the garment would be available in, type of fabric to be ued, material descriptions, marker width, trimming information and labour cost.

Are you fed up with all what your tailor sews for you? They just dón't fit you as you expect them to? Well then, watch out for my next post; "Tailor Horror". ciao.
